Hello, I'm Mithun Vimalan, founder and project lead at ULOG3. We're a passionate team of 75 young innovators from India, focused on developing India’s first neuromorphic chip designed for onboard AI processing in satellites
OUR PROJECT

This marks our first milestone in building a prototype. As part of this phase, we developed seven different AI models and, after thorough testing, We selected the most effective one. Now The chosen model is now being implemented as a Spiking Neural Network (SNN) to enable low-power, real-time processing.
MISSION

ULOG3 aims to develop India’s first neuromorphic chip designed for onboard AI processing in satellites.
In space, we are not able to use AI to its fullest because of two main problems: memory bottleneck and synchronous processing. These two are the main reasons for high power consumption in AI models. But satellites don't have enough power to support such models.
So, as an alternative, we looked into neuromorphic processing units. What we believe is that, compared to AI accelerators like TPU, VPU, and NPU, neuromorphic processing will be the best and we are going to prove that soon.
We are planning to tape out our first neuromorphic chip before 2026.
As part of this long-term goal, we have currently created 104 neurons, but for now, that part is confidential. The SNN model is performing well, and slowly we will increase the number of neurons. In a few more days, we will implement it on FPGA, and by the end of this year, we are going to test it in the stratosphere.

Our team, ULOG3, stands on the shoulders of our own perseverance. From building neuromorphic CubeSats to pushing the boundaries of deep learning in space missions, we have come this far only through sheer hard work and a deep passion for what we do. Yet, we know that collaboration is the key to achieving great things.
